The American Akita has a wide variety of approved colors. He can be red, fawn, white, black, even pinto (with patches which cover the head and over one third of the body on white background) or brindle and so on. Colors should be bright and clear and the markings evenly distributed. The undercoat may have a different color to the top coat. The American Akita either has a mask (black face) or is without one (the face and body are of uniform color). Solid white dogs never have a mask.
